I'm not looking to self diagnose but I really think I might have this.
For about six months now I've been picking at my scalp. It started with combing through it to find bits of dandruff, which led to pulling it off my hair, which led to actually scratching at the scalp and pulling hair out.
There have been multiple nights where I have sat up for hours just doing this obsessively. I have developed a few scabs and bled once or twice. I also now have bald patches which I'm very embarrassed of and find difficult to hide. I've started wearing a hat to stop myself but this comes off when I go to bed at night and that's when it begins.
I don't have anxiety or anything and mentally I feel great the vast majority of the time. I should also add I've bitten my nails and picked at pimples for most of my life. So is it really just a bad habit as I've been told or is it possibly Dermatilliomania?
Yeah you most likely have it, thatโs exactly how I started. I was in 8th grade, and during class I would feel around for dandruff and eventually the scratching and poking led to bleeding, which led to scabs, which led to picking. I would recommend seeing a psychiatrist or therapist
