I haven't gotten a haircut for more than a year because I'm ashamed of the scabs on my scalp. Every month I would tell myself "If you stop doing this for a month, you can reward yourself with a haircut." Well, that didn't work, so I decided to reverse it. I booked a haircut while still very much addicted. This was a pretty stressful week and I knew that I would destroy my scalp if I didn't have a reason not to. So a few days ago I booked a haircut for Thursday. This is probably the first time in a year that I've gone three days in a row without messing with my scalp. After only three days, my scalp is hardly even bumpy. There's less up there to tempt me. It's crazy how fast scabs heal if you leave them alone. So if you mess with your scalp, you might want to try booking a hair appointment only one or two or three weeks out, depending on how intense your scabbing is. The thought that a fashionable stranger WILL be rooting around your scalp in a few days just might stop you. Hopefully the new haircut will motivate me to keep this up after the appointment.
This is relatable. Embarrassing as it may be, you might wanna let your hairdresser know about the issues you face so she doesn’t think anything of it when she’s doing your hair. My fear is they’ll find it disgusting or unsanitary, but they’ll probably forget about it in a day.
