So, I'm posting this on here in hopes that people who drive for Uber and those who know people who drive for Uber will see it. Note, we are filing complaints with Uber and the PUC, but people need to know how often this occurs.
Today I get a text from my wife who was nearly denied service by an Uber Driver who tried to bail when she saw her service dog (in harness with the logo of the school, Guide Dogs for the Blind, on it). This isn't the first time. She was only accepted after she had to forcefully tell the driver it's against FEDERAL LAW to deny service.
This weekend just before the snow hit, an Uber driver denied service to my babysitter, also blind with a service dog from the same school, was denied at Broadway Station right in front of us. I watch the guy drive up, see that they have a service dog, and take off.
If you are a driver for Lyft or Uber, you are required under Federal Law to transport anyone who has a service dog. Period. Full stop.
I'm getting to the point where I'm ready to spend my time and energy conducting stings on Uber drivers and taking them to federal court. Because really, I'm done with having to deal with the effects of this blatant discrimination.
If you are a Uber or Lyft driver, you need to comply with Federal Law. Even Uber states this clearly on their site.
If you choose not to, I will ensure you don't drive for them again. We will be aggressively reporting all violations, and remember, federal court isn't out of the picture.
