So, my SO works for DPS and visits like 8 schools in a week. Being that I get paroled from my job every day at 3, sometimes I'll pick her up. Well, yesterday I made the drive to Northfield to the middle/elementary school she's at. DPD had pulled over a mom who was parked illegally in a no-parking zone. My SO was still with a student and I didn't know how long she would be, so being that there was zero traffic in either direction as far as the eye can see, I flipp'd a U-turn from the passenger loading zone to open paralell parking on the other side of the street, parked, and proceeded to wait. While waiting, the DPD officer pulled up next to me and asked me to roll down my window.
"Don't make U-Turns in front of the school."
"Uh, okay."
And he left. But this piqued my interest. There were no "no u-turn" signs. I'm not aware of any CRS or DMC regulation that supports this officer, everything I could find in the Colorado Drivers Manual says "OK unless signed or you don't have clear vision in both directions and can safely do it." I did: a full block in either direction of nothing but Deputy Dawg and his soccer mom mark.
So, am I missing something here? Or was I dealing with an over-zealous safety-salamander cop not wanting someone doing a fully legal U-turn on his block.
