So this is going to be a little long but bear with me please.
Almost three weeks ago I've accidentally dislodged a filling from my tooth while flossing. I made an appintment with my dentist for a few days later. In that time I tried to eat on the other side of my mouth as much as possible, but some food inevitably got stuck in the exposed tooth. It was a little bit painful but nothing extreme, also it was a bit sensitive as well when I breathed in cold air or drank cold fluids.
Anyway, I got to my dentist at the appointed time, and she filed a little bit of the tooth off, and put a large filling in it. It was a little difficult for her, she noted a few times that the tooth has a weird bump in it, but in the end she managed.
In the following days however it was a little bit painful to eat on that side of my mouth so I kept using the other side. This wasn't really concerning for me, since the last time a filling was put into this tooth, it was sensitive for almost a month.
But after three days passed, the tooth started to hurt constantly. At first it was just a mild annoyance, but gradually it got worse and worse, until 1 or 2 days later, I couldn't take it anymore and took a painkiller (Cataflam) for it. It worked magically, the pain absolutely vanished. I kept using the medicine, taking it everytime the pain became overwhelming (just as a side note here, I had all of my wisdom teeth removed, and this tootache is much worse than the recovery pains were for all but one of them).
After around 3 days of this, I knew I had to revisit my doctor, so I did just that. She took a look at it, but didn't see anything wrong and decided to just file some of the filling away, she said that maybe it's too high which is causing the problem. After a brief but extremely painful filing, she has said that the cavity wasn't nearly large enough to varrant a root canal procedure, and she advised me to try to bear with it for a few days.
Now, I understand that root canal treatment is an extreme solution, but right now, I still experience the same amount of pain as before, and I couldn't really function normally, if not for the painkillers. Did any of you experience something similar before? What could be causing this problem and are there any other solutions other than getting a root canal?
TLDR: Experiencing constant pain after getting a filling. Only bearable by taking painkillers for it every day. The tooth is not actually bad enough to varrant a root canal, looking for alternate solutions.
