How do you deal with patients who have terrible bad breath?

I've been in the industry for about 3 years now, but I'm still not used to it. Especially those cases where you don't even have to look in a patient's mouth to know that they have gum disease. The smell is just so distinct and strong. Could you please share tips on how you deal with this kind of issue? 🥲
