I'm currently a predental student and I was wondering what is the scope of work for a dental assistant without a license or registration in Washington working in a dental clinic.
I just received a job offer and they are letting their assistants do coronal prophylaxis and X-rays which I am uncertain if I am able to do independently without certification. The dentists are always present but may not be constantly supervising the procedure.
I've looked online but I can't seem to find exactly what a unlicensed dental assistant can do. I also am not sure if being paid or volunteering makes a difference, and if it is at a lower-income clinic or not.
Also any advice for getting a license?
Thank you
If I’m looking to do what you said, what is the name of the certification or where specifically do I go to pay that forty bucks and get going?? This is such helpful and amazing news, thank you for sharing!

I did find it right away, thank you! Sorry I was excited and asked before even beginning the search; I wasn’t sure there was just one sole clear answer! Do you work as a dental assistant or something analogous or similar? Is this certification path a wise one (i.e. is it possible to learn enough on the job if you show up with this cert and only basic knowledge?)
