Malcolm was able to get some good work done over the past week. By the Friday morning he was able to get his scavenger hunt set up that would have the assigned teams spread out across Brooklyn. It was supposedly going to be an easy little adventure albeit time-consuming so long as nobody ran into any trouble. At breakfast the team members were all told to gather whatever they might need while they were out into the city and group up at the camp's parking lot with their teammates. When the teams were all assembled at the camp parking lot they would find Malcolm (of course) and Ashwood Gibson aka Gibby, a veteran satyr wearing a Wiz Khalifa hoodie.
"Welcome to the first Borough Scavenger hunt, y'all. As y'all already know, you're about to explore Brooklyn and do your best to find every location then be back here as quick as you can. It's a race but it's not one that you'll need to rush. Right now, what Gibby is handing y'all your team packages. These will contain a map of Brooklyn with your team's individual places marked, money to cover entrance fees and food, and your individual lists of places you'll need to go in order to advance." On cue, Gibby started to hand out the individual lists.
"At each location that you reach you'll need to find a one drachma to prove that you had made it. Now, to keep people from cheating, each of these drachmae are stamped with your team symbols in the Greek Alphabet. Alphas only pick up the Alpha coins, Betas only pick up the Beta coins, and Gammas only pick up the Gamma coins. Easy enough right? Brooklyn is a pretty big area so you'll each be provided with a van and a driver in case you need one. If you got your own rides, feel free to use those instead as long as there's room for your whole team.
"Let's see, what elseโฆ stay safe, don't do anything too crazy, watch out for monsters and if you need back up or somehow end up in a position to where you can't make it back to camp then feel free send an Iris-message back to us. You've got five minutes to look over your lists and maps to try and plan out whatever route you hope to take. After that, you'll head in your cars and head out west. We expect everyone back by the early or so since it's gonna be a four hour drive there and back. Last thing: winner of the hunt gets to have their cabins lead the teams in the next capture the flag game. Ready?" He sets the time on his watch, it's a shield but of course it's still a watch too. "Go!"
OOC: So, the way this would is that it would be sort of like a quest where each team would have their own thread and tag me whenever they feel they're ready to reach a location. Of course, it wouldn't be much fun if I didn't throw a monster in there so be on the look out when I'm tagged in. Which ever thread ends with their team back at camp and with their drachmae presented to Malcolm wins! Good luck, Buckos. If you have any questions I'll try to answer them.
Curtis had never been to any of these places, unfortunately, but when Spencer noted her familiarity with the area, he grinned. With her leading, this would he a pretty easy deal, he felt.
"Great, so Spencer has the plans, you've got the gear," he said as he looked to Maya, "and I've got the wheels. Unless you'd rather we take one of the vans?"
He had a small backpack on, something to carry some snacks, water, and his tonfa. Despite it being a fairly familiar place for the others, and the route likely safe, one couldn't be too careful. "The route works for me, ready when y'all are!"
"Yeah, right back at ya buddy," Curtis said calmly as he raised his left hand in a rather obscene gesture to some red-cheeked old fart who'd tried to cut him off, but failed thanks to a well-timed stop by the car ahead in his lane. It was a returned gesture, so he didn't feel too bad about it. Still, it was frustrating that parking seemed so dense. But what else was to be expected of the city?
He made his way towards the parking areas near the lake, seeking an empty space. Hopefully Sam or Maya could spot something, as it seemed for his part, Curtis couldn't find a damn thing.
Having been to Disneyland and Six Flags, Curtis was well and familiar with roller coasters, on the other hand. Still, horrorcoasters weren't exactly something he was all that familiar with, and it actually felt nice having a scare with the rest of it. His eyes still scanned their surroundings, watching for any hint of the coin. It would be a challenge for sure, but he wanted to get it quick and just enjoy the rest of the ride.
"Works for me. I've never been, so I'll have to rely on you two for where to go," he said as he began to pull out of the parking space, honestly a bit bummed they couldn't stay longer and enjoy the rest of the amusements. But there would be time later. For now, he got started on the way towards their next destination.
"I'll take the left," he said ash he motioned for Spencer to get in before him. The ride was weird, and he wasn't normally the type to reach out of a ride while in one, but if that was what he had to do, he'd do it.
Curtis opened his door and got in, starting it up and smiling as that familiar sound filled the car, the engine shaking it slightly. Looking over to Maya and back to Spencer as he spoke, he said, "Any major gathering places there? Like a pavilion, or a playground or something?"
Curtis hadn't actually thought of that. But a trip to a place like this would be a fun thing to do as a counselor, if he could get the support from Chiron. Of course he hadn't exactly caused any trouble, so it wasn't out of the realm of possibility. "That's a good idea, guys, yeah. It'd be hella fun for sure."
The wild kids caught his attention, but they were gone before he could even really register them. "We can work that out back at camp though, lets get on to the next one. Where to from here?"
Curtis, meanwhile, lacked the ability to carry his weapons in a clandestine manner. They clacked about gently in his bag, though, and he'd given himself a good enough shock back at camp to power his abilities long enough to get them if he needed to. Looking about the area, he followed Spencer's lead.
"It'd have to be somewhere visible enough to find it, but not so blatant that we'd get it right away. Somewhere your average person would overlook." He wasn't exactly the most observant person, but Curtis tried his best, keeping an eye out for anything small and shiny.
"Yeah, here ya go," he said in response, handing the coin over to Maya before looking back to Spencer. "Kinda sucks we can't stay and enjoy the rest of the park, this seems like my kinda place."
New York parking was always a mess, even outside of Manhattan. Thankfully they caught a spot just as somebody was leaving, and although Curtis was from a place in California where people were just slightly more polite, he was ready to cut someone off for the spot. THis was a race, after all.
"Like Amazing Race, but with the added risk of getting jumped by monsters between spots." Curtis gave a confident grin before taking out the keys.
"Okay, where to first?" he asked Spencer as he shut his door, the sights of the area filling him with child-like joy. Although to be fair he pretty much was still a kid.
"Fuckin bingo," Curtis said as he spotted the coin in the mouth of the upcoming werewolf. The rest of the ride had been pretty cool actually, at least as a fan of classic horror movie monsters and cheesy scares, and he had kept a close eye for detail. Looking up ahead to make sure he wouldn't crack his head against a low hanging ceiling, he stretched out from within the barrel, reaching for the coin and managing to barely snag it before the animatronic werewolf's mouth snapped shut. "Got it!"

"Technically I'm not supposed to be driving, but that isn't too much of an issue," he replied with a laugh as he got into the driver's seat, starting it up. It had been awhile since he'd driven out of camp, but he reveled the chance to do so. "Not that long of a drive anyway. We'll be fine."
Once the others were in, he told them about the radio, and gave them free reign over what music was played. It would be quite the little mission they were on, it would be nice to have something everyone was cool with playing.
