I just bought a Latitude 5520 from outlet.dell.com and a Samsung 980 Pro from Amazon, planning to install the 980 in the SSD2 port, which according to the 5520 service manual is PCIe Gen4 x4 capable. And indeed, inside the laptop, there's an SSD2 port which is clearly labeled as PCIe Gen4 x4. But there are only motherboard traces - there's no actual M.2 connector on the SSD2 port! The screw-down terminal is also missing.
I would be fine with only having a single SSD, but the SSD1 port is limited to Gen3.
Does anyone know if this is normal?
I'm thinking that this might be because although the specs I ordered were Intel Xe only, the machine I received has a GeForce MX450 in it. Maybe there aren't enough PCIe lanes to run both a Gen4 SSD and an MX450, or something.
Anyone actually know the answer?
