Encountering a (kinda sexist) DELL Repair Technician

Post Body

As I write this I have a technician replacing some parts in a DELL G7 7590. Originally the computer had fallen and the casing suffered damage, we sent it to DELL under warranty in order to get it fixed. After getting it back we encountered some issues:

  • The keyboard (originally RGB) had only White backlight (strange).
  • The mousepad's left click wasn't working at all.

After contacting them, they send this older man that's currently working on it. When he entered he said, "So, what's the problem?" My gf mentioned the RGB backlit keyboard and all I remember him saying is that he didn't know anything about any RGB. Then she tried to explain more but the guy's on a bad mood since he came into my apartment complex so he just dismisses her and asks me, "What did Support say?" It's as if he just assumed she was blathering nonsense instead of actually trying to understand what she was saying.

As he fixed it (my gf in the other room), he starts saying in very low volume, something around the lines, "she's better off in the other room. Best for her and best for me 'cause I can already see. . . . How can you talk about something that you don't know about? Know what I mean?" Honestly just to not antagonize him (since he has the parts and he probably can do job better than me) I kinda just went along, but in my mind I kept thinking, "What the fuck is this man talking about". It was hard to listen to the guy since he muttered his words under a facemask (covid right?), and then he alluded to having to deal with the support people. Then he showed me some computer part and he said "See, it says RGB", and I said, "Oh great", and then he went on to say, "What was she saying then? Because it says RGB." I said that she basically meant that that's what we wanted, and then he says something like "nevermind. . . we're not talking . . . ". He also alluded to not loving his job, saying something like, "I've been working about on year in this job - know what I mean?"

Honestly I'm being vague in my storytelling and sitting near this guy has been a pretty uncomfortable experience, but I'm just surprised how out-of-touch some of these technicians are (not the first time). My gf also had an uncomfortable experience with a Lenovo technician, but that's another story.

EDIT: As some have noted, this technician is outsourced to Worldwide Tech Services. I forgot to add that when he left he said (in a light manner), "It was a hard job. They don't pay me enough for this." He was an older man so that kinda explains his behavior as well, but I just hope that in the future technicians aren't as odd. Also, even though the repair seemed pretty spot on, until after he left we discovered a plastic strip that we thought belonged to the plastic film covering the mousepad - but it's actually coming from the inside of the computer !: Now there's a blue strip just sticking out by the mousepad. Also he sounded really condescending when he said, "Do you know if they updated the BIOS? You DO KNOW what the BIOS is RIGHT ?" - And, I mean, I know a bit about it (like that it needs to be updated and something about Input/Output), but damn. Edit 2: After talking with my girlfriend I realized that he's the one who first asked a question, not my girlfriend.
