I have a Dell XPS 15 9570 that is overheating near the charging port. It only overheats when plugged in and I am gaming on it, usually resulting in frames dropping to 1 or crashing the game, but it does get warm with normal tasks while plugged in. I play on a gas table top which I know is not the best for a computer to sit on. I was thinking about getting a cooling stand for it but I do not know if any would be better or worse. I tried using an electronic duster and blowing it into the ports to clean the fans but that did not help much. I could try to take it to a repair shop but I am hesitant with college classes online and this being a laptop I bought from the school and is covered under warranty. But the schools repair jobs are atrocious.
