This all started when I tried to upgrade the memory of my Dell Optiplex 7090 small form factor.
I attempted to swap my single 8 GB stick for 2 x 16 GB sticks - Crucial by micron DDR4-Pro
CP16G4DFRA32A.C8FF
16GB DDR4-3200 UDIMM
upon reboot and all subsequent combinations of trying both sticks and each stick singly in the various slots, the computer power button blinked a code of 2 amber, 5 white flashes.
I called micron's support line and they assured me that the memory was compatible with the Optiplex. I still have my doubts about that, but am moving forward. One of their suggestions was to upgrade the BIOS.
I downloaded Dell's BIOS upgrade tool and noticed and was warned that several of the 'New Version' items were older than the 'Current Version' items already installed. I was asked if I really wanted to downgrade these BIOS items.
I've postponed changing the BIOS until I've heard from my fellow redditors about this.
