Hi,
I have an Inspiron 3847 Desktop that has served me for nearly 9 years now and in the past month, I encountered a whirring sound whenever the desktop has started from cold (i.e. no use in the past couple hours). After opening it up and trying to find the source of the sound, I found out that it is coming from the PSU. This whirring sound occurs for about 5 mins after startup before the whirring starts to pulsate and then it goes quiet again. If the computer has been used recently, there is no whirring upon start up.
Given this, I suspect that the PSU fan might be starting to wear out. However, I want to ask if this assumption is correct and what I can do about it? Is it possible to somehow lubricate the PSU fan or do I need to get a replacement?
Also, does the 3847 accept any brand of 300W PSU, or does it have to be OEM?
FYI the part number for the PSU is: 8TXFY and Model No is: L300PM-02.
Thanks for your assistance.
