Just finished season 1 doing my next gen rewatch, here’s some thoughts.

After my first viewing I really came to appreciate Ashley’s drama in the later seasons if I didn’t take her seriously but it’s hard yall… season 1 Ashley is just so mean spirited, she was never my favorite but the distaste I had for her came full force almost immediately.

Semma is so melodramatic, honestly soulmates. I love their overblown pre-teen romance issues of their own making it’s kind of endearing when they’re so young 😭

The Sean & Jimmy rivalry was something i vaguely remembered but never stuck out to me but they really hated each other fr 💀

“Heyyyy Liberty Girlfrienddddd” was so unprovoked like bro she already believed you and was gonna keep it a secret why are you playing in her face like that 💀💀💀

Manny, Jimmy & Liberty honestly are my season 1 favorites, obviously Manny & Jimmy are in my top 5 all time so it’s nice to still have that standing.

I enjoyed spinner this time around much more, because I do know he gets better but I remember in my first watch not being too big on him, kinda meh and then absolutely hating him after time stands still, but season 1 spinner is pretty funny. Not harmless by any means, but it’s definitely not him at his worst.

Toby got way more focus than I remember? I liked that he was a main, I really like Toby it’s so sad he lowkey fell into the black hole for no reason.

This season was fine, it really doesn’t feel like classic degrassi until the finale, the first real episode of consequence imo. That and the Semma date episode, Manny’s first “no, you’re just jealous!” and Ashley’s face figuring out her dad was gay are the moments that were really nostalgic for me.

I think Terri, just like Toby, got a good deal of focus and both characters were very interesting to me, would’ve loved to see them both around for much longer.

I think Paige’s growth rewrote history for me a little bit during my first viewing, she was mean as hell this season too, what she did to Terri with the alcohol never being brought up again is seriously creasing me.

Also manny has some throw away lines about how she wants to be friends with Paige and thinks Ashley is so pretty and smart and just knowing what I know is so funny like, lowkey foreshadowing both of their importance in her story and how much things change, manny & Paige’s first beef episode, ICONIC!!!

Anyways, onto season 2!
