Post Body

Had a family member post this today. I don't really know how to respond because it doesn't make an ounce of sense. All I did was post a link to the 13 yo who was forced to carry a baby term after being sa'd and said "I guess she is supposed to feel the same way?" I know there's no reasoning with some people who are steadfast in their beliefs, but c'mon. At least TRY to be rational.

There is a billboard in the suburbs of my city that says ā€œbabies have a heartbeat 18 days after conceptionā€ so thatā€™s what we are working with here.

Because a fetus at that gestational age may have primordial cells which eventually proliferate into functional human organs but cells do not equal humanity.

Itā€™s never about viability with forced birthers. Even when the fetus is dead inside a woman, they feel she should just suffer and figure it out on her own without the dreaded ā€œabortionā€ procedure often required at that point to save a womanā€™s life.

Where I work (a hospital) these protestors have shown up daily since Roe fell. They come in a van plastered with all kinds of nonsense to include graphic photos of aborted fetuses and even infants who were clearly born and deceased under traumatic circumstances. They only come and stay during shift changes to goad and harass staff, and they wear signs saying ā€œif this hospital kills babies, why would you trust them with your care?ā€

We are in a blue state but we only perform D&Cs for women with nonviable and life-threatening pregnanciesā€¦ like hospitals should be able to.

But we are the ones who are radicalized.

I hear ya, but their target audience doesnā€™t have the correct information or bandwidth to understand the difference.

I justā€¦. My job is hard enough, man. I shouldnā€™t have to deal with this coming in and out of my workplace. What more do they want? They got Roe overturned and fucked many people over. We arenā€™t doing routine abortions. They WANT women to suffer, for a clump of cells they call personhood. It makes me so angry but I have to put my disappointed mom face on and shake my head and thatā€™s the best I can do.

Iā€™m especially sorry for and worried for our young women and girls. I donā€™t have children because I chose to get sterilized when ole Greg Abbott put his heartbeat bill out, but that wasnā€™t a difficult choice for me to makeā€¦ I feel so much empathy for those who have daughters. It was already worrisome enough to bring a female child into this world prior to the falling of Roe. Itā€™s up to all of us to give them a better future than we have/had. Your daughters are lucky to have you. I hope we pull it together for all of our daughters. ā¤ļø

They know itā€™s unappealing, so theyā€™ll just force us to do it instead.

They make sure to stay right out of bounds where staff come in from the road but technically it isnā€™t hospital grounds. I find it hilarious that they target staff but canā€™t be bothered to staff their crew all day if they really want to make a point. I drive by them daily, always tempted to do or say something that would probably get me fired. I may have shouted ā€œdonā€™t come asking us for help then!!ā€ a few timesā€¦

They canā€™t make an argument based in science or outside of what their sky fairy manual tells them (supposedly), so they tug on ignorant heartstrings. It seems to be working.

Oh I see those too. Or a cute little toddler with a quote ā€œI felt pain 12 days after conceptionā€

I have a unique situation slightly, only in that I am an RN and Iā€™ve had the same OBGYN for years and years so she knew I already understood the medical implications and she knows me. We have rapport and she trusts me so although she did have a consultation with me prior to approving the surgery, I didnā€™t have to jump through many hoops. I told her Iā€™m unwilling to bleed out in an ER waiting on the hospitalā€™s legal team just because Iā€™m stuck living in a red state (I work across the border in a blue state). I have zero regrets, I just had my three year sterile-versary šŸ˜‚ I am definitely seeing it happen more and more and the news outlets are reporting as such. Hmm I fucking wonder why?!
