What are your ideas to make the Gold actually worth mining again?

Ive returned to the game recently and i realized how basically not even low level randos mine gold anymore. It seems like everyone and their mother realized by now how useless it is unless a crassus shows up or you have pots o gold on (and even then its still a debate if thats worth it either)
So any ideas? Because it bothers me that such a mineral starts getting more and more ignored. It obviously needs to change.
