The day was a long one, celebrating the season of Atòr. This holiday was always a hard one on the city of Khasapa, the farmers from the north side of the river who Khasapa holds as tributaries (among other villages) come to give offerings to the God of Harvest to bring them a good season to come. It was especially a hard celebration on the priesthood of Khasapa, lead by the god-come-alive Shà l bher, the city was a mess and nobody was admitting it. The Sun Priest position was left unfilled, the madman from the south refused to let the priests elect a replacement for the one he slaughtered earlier in the year. Worse, Shà l bher has made it clear that he wants to fill the position of the Sun Priest, an unorganized, unintelligent man who knows nothing about running a mound, let alone an entire city.
The only thing that prevents the priests from murdering the new leader is their drove's of loyal subjects. From the Warrior Farmers living in their fort on the south bank of the river, to his band of lunatics he brought with him to the city, he even got the local population to listen to his rants. The Warrior Farmers were the tools used by the Priests to see their will come true, but now their power is dwindling now that they'd rather listen to the so-called "God" instead of them.
Shà l bher gathered the elder priests in the building constructed on top of the Sun Mound's lower platform after the noon-day celebration was cleaned up. "Gentlemen" He addressed the 10 Priests and 2 Warrior Farmers in the small single-room building "As what might have been obvious by the length of today's ceremony, I am not the most adept man when dealing with our religion. This is why I want help from you gentlemen to guide me leading this city. In return, I have plans to expand our influence more than just murdering lonely priests who don't follow our instructions."
The group of priests stared at him. "Maybe he's not as crazy as we thought." they all thought to themselves. After some discussion, they agreed to advise the mad god.
"We will no longer be demanding tribute from our neighboring villages. I will appoint you men to be in charge of several Mounds throughout our tributaries. In return for listening to our political and spiritual guidance, we'll stop killing them and ask less for their tributes. We'll unite the Atòrganì under us, village by village, town by town."
Most priests agreed to the new rule. Less hassle on the priests having to make hard decisions about their local towns, and they had to give less to appease the city than before.
