In the before times there was nothing besides the two great ones. Pa, the creator and Ka, the destroyer. Pa would create small things, maybe a tree or a rock or maybe even a bird, but Ka would always follow his instinct and destroy Pa's creations until late one day Pa decided to end their conflict. In the strongest display of Pa's powers he used almost all of his mana to create the guardian of the world, the Thunderbird. Bigger than the great ones combined with wings that stretch over the horizon the Thunderbird attacked Ka with his great, mighty claws and struck Ka down and would have killed him if Pa didn't stop his first great creation. Pa locked Ka up in the largest, strongest cage imaginable, the world. Between creating his first two great creations Pa was almost spent, if he created anything, even something as small as an ant he would have died. So instead, he slept for a million years while Ka tried to escape from his prison.

There is a thin line we walk today, as Pa's third great creation we hold immense sway over the world. If you break even just one taboo the balance of the world can fall out of line and Ka could gain his strength back.

Living along the Karrrota river far in the east, the Tupai are a superstitious people farming the land and living in large, patriarchal families all under one roof in large wooden structures gathered together in small towns of only a couple families along the river. Living in a balanced life avoiding the taboos presented to them by their elders and following the preaching of the gods, they grow rice, buckwheat, millet, and sorghum in the floodplains around the river.
