Apollo 13 and the finding of energy crystals

In this universe, special energy crystals are found on the moon by the crew of the Apollo mission and are brought back to the US for research. Little did they know it would change the course of history forever. These crystals have a huge amount of energy stored in them and the US quickly uses them to work on weapons using them. These new tanks, planes, and boats can last exponentially longer than anything else at that time. The US scientists also invent energy bombs which use these crystals to make weapons much stronger than any atomic bomb. These bombs can be ranged from dense, powerful detonations to large, less powerful ones.

The Rise of the Fourth Reich, or 'West Germany vs. the world

In 1980 West Germany declared war on East Germany with American made technology, using the long ranged bombers and energy bombs to decimate the Eastern Germans and take over their lands quickly.

In 1981, the Warsaw pact joined to help the falling German government. But in a failing effort they were also pushed back until the introduction of Russian energy bombs.

The space race continues

Through out the 1970s the USA sent continual missions to collect more crystals increasing their stockpiles and developing faster ships, yet even with the continual expansion the USA kept the crystals a secret up to the war in Germany.

In 1981 The USSR launched their first successful moon landing and was able to create weapons on the scale of the USA.
