I am looking to get a deck built around a sunken swim spa. One builder had recommended ipe and another builder recommended composite because the deck will constantly be splashed/wet and he said it ipe/natural wood would require constant maintenance from water exposure. This really resonated with me because we have wood counters in our kitchen and bathrooms and the finish is constantly being ruined by water and we are wiping them constantly.
Is composite the best choice for frequent water exposure and if so how should I think about different brands and lines? I know one criticism for pool decks is composite gets very hot but the deck will be in partial shade and it will be small, mostly for covering the concrete bunker of the spa rather than for lounging on.
I also don't plan to be here for 30 years so paying for a 30 or 50 year warranty seems irrelevant to me. I'd like to be budget conscious but not regret getting something that will disintegrate.
