For anyone unfamiliar - Inktober was a challenge created by an artist named Jake Parker as a way to "improve skills and develop positive habits" ... You are given 31 prompts (1 for each day) and challenged to create a drawing from these!
(Don't worry, this post isn't about getting you all to draw, you'll need to find the right challenge that motivates you)
Last year when I heard about this challenge I "ran", doubting my skills and whether or not I'd have the time to do such a challenge.
I had my high's and low's during the month and even though I wasn't happy with ALL of my drawings, I was proud of what I accomplished by holding myself accountable to the process of slowly becoming better.
Challenges of any magnitude or scope can become daunting, especially if we allow ourselves to fall victim to the doubts we create for ourselves - One of the biggest mental obstacles people face - me included - before starting any challenge is the fear of failure and the resulting reluctance to start.
Trying might be the first step to failing but don't forget that failure is often the first step to success.
If you'd like to read more about my month long challenge, see my full Inktober portfolio, or understand why we fear failure please check out the full article on my blog at the link below/
