I’m 24F, and I want this year to be my year. Im a teacher and have struggled with maintaining work/life balance as a first-year, so my New Year’s resolutions mostly center on getting that balance and trying to re-center my identity outside of my job.
Basically, right now I’ve been working on a piece of creative writing. I ultimately want to turn it into a 20-page chapbook or so, and then submit it to a small publisher. After that’s finished, I want to devote at least one time a week to doing an additional hobby. I’m in a major city if that helps. I’m from the area originally but didn’t have many friends in HS and went to college out of state.
I really have an interest in theater and improv, and am auditioning for an improv group soon. My other interests include arthouse cinema (although I haven’t engaged with that in a while because I feel like consuming shit like 90 day fiancé after a long day at work), and reading. The problem is that, with the exception of theater/improv, a lot of these are very solitary activities for the most part. I like poetry slams, though. I also like museums and am interested in art, especially outsider art. Im not much of an artist, though—more of an appreciator.
What group activities do you think I could get into potentially? New suggestions are welcome based on my interests. How do I meet people outside of work?
