So, I acquired a CC in 2015. My husband was AD military and we were financially secure enough for it. We ended up with 3 special needs kids and he had to get out of the military. He ended up being awarded full disability, but being on a fixed income meant we had to pick what was paid, my debts not being one of them at the time. We fully planned on filing for bankruptcy, but our debt wasn’t high enough according to the attorney. In 2018, I informed the credit collections agency of our issue and never heard back. Now, over 5 years later, I’ve received a letter from an attorneys office (a legit office) stating an intent to file a court proceeding for $1,234 in collections. Is there anything I can do to avoid court while also not paying that up front? I’m all for ownership, but we’re still a fully disabled veteran family with 3 disabled kids on a fixed income. We don’t have money just laying around.
