I come from a family who does not have a good relationship with money. I took a financial literacy class in 10th grade but thatās all the finance help Iāve had. Iām currently in a great deal of revolving debt for my age. I got myself into this mess by irresponsibly maxing out my credit cards on my āboyfriendā (he didnāt want any titles, said we were still together. I fell for it because I was desperate and didnāt love myself) when I was 18 and not paying them off, then getting more. Iām 20 now and struggling because of this. Using the Experian app my credit score is, 604 Experian, 558 equifax, and 577 trans union. My total debt is $4,116, all from credit cards. I will list all of my cards and payment history in order below.
First Card: BOA Customized Cash Rewards Visa Platinum Plus (secured card, $500 limit, $497 balance, interest rate is 29.24%) Opened September 2021, one past due payment 06/22 (30 days) Due date is on the 16th of each month, statement on the 19th. Minimum payment usually $35
Second Card: Capital One Quicksilver (unsecured card, $3000 limit, $3084.20 balance, interest rate 31.99%) Opened March 2022, one past due payment 07/22 (30 days). Due date is the 28th of each month, statement date on the 3rd. Minimum payment usually $115. I already called and tried to get the interest rate lowered or a payment arrangement and they said they couldnāt help me.
Third Card: Capital One Platinum Secured Card (Secured card, $200 limit, $199.23 balance, interest rate is 30.49%) I have always paid on time. Opened March 2023, I closed this account yesterday without paying the balance, and my security deposit was $200. So do I have to pay that balance manually or will it be covered by my deposit? Please let me know. This is due on the 3rd.
Fourth Card: Credit One (Secured Card, $300 limit, $335.90 balance, interest rate is 28.99%) I have always paid on time. Opened April 2023. Due date on the 13th of each month, statement on the 17th. Minimum payment $60.
I just got a new job making $15 an hour, full time. I get paid biweekly. I should make about $1000 every other week. I pay for my phone bill, the gas bill, the power bill, and car insurance for a car shared by 3 people. My bills total $450-$550 most of the time (not including food, gas) Iām looking for another full time job that I can work at the same time. Iām in desperate need of a car. I canāt get a loan, or any unsecured cards, and no one knows about my debt. I canāt afford anything. My priorities are to pay these cards and get a car. I need a car by the end of this year as I will no longer have access to the shared car. I understand that I put myself in this situation, Iām asking for advice/help on how to deal with this responsibly. Please help if you can, let me know if I need to provide more information. Iām ready to be able to live my life.
