All of Religious Apologetics and Appeals to the Supernatural Can Be Classified As Arguments From Ignorance. However, I Believe We May Also Classify Them As An Element of Media, the Ass Pull.
Post Body

EDIT: In a few comments I clarified that religions with supernatural themes are expected in our reality, and are not in and of themselves Ass Pulls. Rather, it is the pulled out of thin air mini narratives that attempt to bridge the plot holes between supernatural narratives and the overall narrative of reality that verge into this territory.

An Ass Pull is a trope (a significant or recurrent theme; a motif) in media that can be defined as:

a moment when the writers pull a narrative development out of thin air in a less-than-graceful fashion. This development violates the Law of Conservation of Detail by dropping a plot-critical detail without Foreshadowing or dropping a Chekhov's Gun earlier on.

Examples of ass pulls in religious apologetics and appeals to the supernatural include John Calvin's sensus divinitatis, Michael Behe's irreducible complexity, moral arguments countering the problems of divine hiddenness and evil, excuses for psychic/spiritual powers not being evident when tested, and so much more.

A recent r/DebateReligion thread argued why atheists can't "win" the religious debate. I think the liberal use of this trope is a large reason. In the affairs of the "supernatural", there was never any solid observations and evidence leading to philosophical arguments that helped perpetuate theology and mysticism. When skeptics presented arguments and evidence to the contrary, there was nothing else that could be done but to refer back to the pungent source. That source is never ending, and rest assured no believer in the supernatural will ever "win" in a debate with an opposed believer either.

This realization came to me when I was just goofing around on TV Tropes to relieve stress over people perpetuating religious arguments that for a long time have rung so hollow and dishonest to me. I wish I could say it was a happy revelation.
