Were these actions of Stalin's government in WW2 justified?

Post Body

I am currently a student to become a historian and in my American history class today we discussed WW2 and the beginning of the Cold War and we discussed the Warsaw uprising and Soviet war crimes. Do you think these things are defendable? This isn't a gotcha I like Stalin but I wanted your input. I would like to avoid whataboutism if possible, I am aware the US UK and the other Allies did similar things but I am only concerned with your thoughts on the acts of the USSR. Thank you and don't be mad I really am just trying to learn lol

Edit: I'm not using this as an attack on socialism or the Soviet Union, I'm genuinely just curious.
