Everything material is made up of particles.
All particles have a state.
States can only be changed through outside interaction.
A particle cannot interact without changing its own state.
From the point of view of any particle, there are a finite number of other particles it can possibly be interacting with at any given moment.
If particle A changes state at time T, then by (3) it must at time T be interacted with. We will assume this interaction was with particle B.
Particle B at time T must itself be changing state, because it is interacting, which is a state change by (4).
If the combined state of particles A and B changes at time T, then by (3) it must at time T be interacted with. We will assume this interaction was with particle C.
Steps 7 and 8 can be repeated to show a need for particle D, E and so on.
However, this regress cannot continue indefinitely in particles, because by (5) there are a finite number of existing candidate particles at time T.
Therefore, something other than a particle must be capable of interacting with particles and producing state changes.
Anything not made up of particles is not material, by (1).
Therefore, something exists that is not material, but which can interact with particles and produce state changes.
