So I'm a meat eater. Honestly for health reasons I try to limit my intake of meat and mostly stick to fish and chicken. I recognize eating meat at all is morally gray at best and... Well, immoral in most circumstance.
ANYWAY. My family lives on a 20 acre property. We keep around 50 chickens, including a few roosters. They have a coop and are fed regularly but we don't bother fencing them in as they stay on the property themselves. Sometimes they get broody on a batch of eggs in the field/ bushes etc but the ones in the coop get collected as long as nobodies actively sitting on them.
My point is that this is about as "free range" as it gets. We don't kill them for getting old/ not laying. They raise babies and live full happy lives.
As I'm sure you know, hens will generally lay an egg every day. The vast majority will be left to cool and spoil and/or are not fertilized to begin with.
It's not gonna stop me from eating eggs either way, but what do you guys think? Can I consider these eggs "guilt free" or is there some stigma I'm missing? I'm pretty sure I could make an argument against myself but it feels thin and I wanna hear your POVs. :)
