Punishing Adam & Eve Was the Act of a Moral Monster

- Before eating fruit from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, Eve and Adam did not understand good and evil.
- Upon eating, Gen. 3:7 says "the eyes of them both were opened" to good and evil.
- If they were unable to see what evil was before eating the fruit, they had no way of knowing that defying God was evil. It wasn't just ignorance; they lacked the capacity to distinguish good from evil.
- God punishes Eve and Adam for disobedience, but at the moment they ate the fruit, they couldn't fully understand that disobedience was wrong.
- God's subsequent laundry list of torture - sorrow, agony in childbirth, the wife's submission to the husband, the creation of thorns and thistles, imposing the need to do labor, expulsion from Eden - is undeserved abuse. Particularly so since God knew in advance what was going to happen.
