Do any Christians believe that the story of Adam & Eve is an allegory?

I don't understand how a Christian can think of it as a metaphor, yet still believe in Jesus. Without original sin, what would the point of Jesus be? This relates to Christians who believe in evolution also. Without Adam & Eve, no original sin exists and therefore no need for Jesus. Please explain this position if you believe in it.
