I found this excellent compilation of resources that addresses Anti Asian Hate Crime and Violence.
I've been sitting on this for a while trying to compile the readings I've done so far but honestly the scale of what to include and the writing to go with it is just too exhausting, which is why I am just too relieved to have come across this site.
I also donated to one of the organizations too, not going to mention which one it is, if you do choose to donate I'd rather you use your own judgement.
It's been a year since the pandemic and we are still witnessing attacks on Asian Americans as well as the Asian diaspora in different parts of the world where they are the minority, and this hurts me greatly, those who have been following me for a while know I write Asian BFE/husband scripts and to see this happening breaks my heart, hence why I haven't been able to resume my creative streaks lately.
This Link Leads To A Carrd.Co Site with all the resources
It has different resources for those who DO experience racially motivated abuse/attacks, and those who do not experience is but want to learn more about it.
- News reporting from major news outlets.
- Where to donate to the organizations behind the scenes.
- Reporting as a bystander.
- How to volunteer.
The list goes on.
I'd like to add this too, this lady created Hate Crime Book, little pamphlets that can be handed out to people in the Asian American community that is available in 7 different languages on how to report a hate crime and how to get help from bystanders when they are being harassed/attacked, you can find out more on her website.
Honestly, if you don't have any Asian friends, or if where you live you don't really see any of them around, it's easy to feel very removed from all of this, and honestly, a lot of these physical assaults happen so rapidly it can be hard to realize what was happening at that very moment, no one can guarantee what they'd do when they witness it.
What if it is an outright racist verbal abuse, what can you do as a bystander? I hope these resources are helpful.
What to do if you witness racism
How to intervene if someone is being harassed
I don't need your upvotes and I don't need your comments neither.
We don't need other big platforms to use their voice.
We don't need performative activism 'cause fuck all that.
Because we have voices of our own.
Only by educating ourselves can we truly make an impact.
Otherwise it's all just song and dance.
Nothing gets changed.
Unless we make the change ourselves.
Will you make the change today?
I'll leave you here with this interview with the biracial Asian American celebrity Olivia Munn, she summed up a lot of points nicely which I hope explains my general sentiment towards White Fragility.
'Cause what I can't stand more than racists, are the ones who aren't self aware, 'cause if you're feeling defensive, chances are you have a lot to reflect on too.
