Anyone else think lead guitars are too quiet on certain albums?

Post Body

One thing I've noticed in several bands I've listened to is that the lead guitars tend to get buried underneath the rhythm guitars and chugging in the mix.

The most obvious example I can think of is Jason Richardson's parts in CG's Ashes to Ashes. While I know a lot of us have a general disdain for that album I really enjoy Jason's solos, but at times they get utterly buried underneath the chugs. To me it seems almost like a waste of talent. Why record such awesome solos and riffs if you can't hear it?

Another example I can think of off the top of my head would be The Acacia Strain's Coma Witch.

I realize that more melodic parts may not be what most fans who just want to mosh want to hear, but I really enjoy a break from all the chugs.

Anyone else feel the same?
