- Both were early models of modern science in their respective worlds (Proto Man being the first Robot Master built with sentience by Dr. Light and Soldier Boy being one of the first Compound V subjects)
- Both would dissappear for an extended period of time and be believed by the public to be dead (Proto Man had an unstable core and feared modifications would make him someone else, so he left Dr. Lights care. Solider Boy was betrayed by his team Payback and was then captured to be experimented on by Russia)
- Both would go on to meet their successor and come into conflict with them, though in the end would have the opposite relationship with said successor (Blues and Rock are brothers and eventually become close allies against Wily while Solider Boy, Homelanders "father" deems him weak and a failure)
- Both have an explosive, unstable power that is incredibly destructive
- Both fight primarily with shields and long range firearms
- Both have a connection to music (Proto Man's name being Blues and being known for his whistle and Solider Boy's music career)
