Problem:

  • Vision is a core element in MOBAs, but Deadlock currently lacks a way to scout the map effectively, as there are no wards available.

Proposed Solution: Preset Wards

  • Preset Ward Locations: Specific ward spots are pre-placed around the map, but players must spend in-game currency (souls) to activate them.
  • Ward Types and Functions:
    • Players can select up to 3 ward locations per game around a designated location (or or just buy on the shop and be perched up in preset locations).
    • Wards can take on stealthy appearances (e.g., crows, pigeons, doves, gargoyles) that blend with the environment to make them harder for enemies to spot and destroy.

Ward Activation Options

  1. Basic Vision Ward:
    • Cost: 500 souls
    • Function: Provides basic vision only (no invisibility detection).
  2. Enhanced Vision Ward:
    • Cost: 1,250 souls
    • Function: Provides vision and either invisibility detection or an audible ping from the player who set the ward (players choose one option upon activation).
  3. Premium Vision Ward:
    • Cost: 3,000 souls
    • Function: Provides vision, invisibility detection, and an audible ping that signals when an enemy approaches the ward.

Additional Ward Mechanics:

  • Height and Positioning: Wards are placed a few meters high to make them less visible to enemies.
  • Appearance: Ward visuals (crows/pigeons/doves/gargoyles) are designed to blend with the surroundings, making them even harder to detect.
  • Rewards for Destroying Wards: Enemies who shoot down a ward receive a specified amount of souls, incentivizing them to be vigilant for these vision spots.

This setup could add strategic depth to Deadlock by introducing a resource-based vision system that rewards map control and awareness, while making ward destruction another element of gameplay strategy.
