As I often explained in my comments, our Libido is also regulated by hormones .
I made the first hand experience many times. So I thought I just share here what in my experience were the main reasons for my and my husband's LL/HL. This doesn't mean that it is like that 100 % for everyone always. Just one part and maybe it helps someone else too.
I am no scientist, so please just Google it if you need to dive in further into it. I will however insert the links for my sources
1: During my Age of 20-30 I noticed that the pill or other hormonal contraceptive injections would decrease my libido continuously down to nonexistent. I would then always take a break of 3-6 months and then restart.
Here is a page talking about this phenomenon.I directly cite the page here:
-"Hypoactive sexual desire disorder is the most frequently reported sexual symptom among women using hormonal contraception. In a study of 3740 women, the authors observed that 43% of them had experienced a reduction in sexual desire attributed to the use of hormonal contraceptives, compared with 12% of women who used hormone-free contraceptives [15]." Here is the source https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8836660/#:~:text=In a study of 3740,-free contraceptives [15]
At some point after our kid planning was finished and I had trouble with Perimenopause and had to take another break from oral contraceptives, my libido came back 70% and we decided that my husband would now have a vasectomy.
Decrease in Testosterone in women during Perimenopause can start even at 35. I had mine finally tested at 46 after going from obGyn to ObGyn 4 years and only getting the "your lab is age appropriate" BS speech. My Testo and Estrogen were way too low and I started HRT. At this point my Libido was at 5% again and went up to 100% within a few days.
Decrease in Testosterone levels in men can cause the same as in women. Not only Libido, but also cardiovascular system, increase blood pressure, insulin resistance etc.
They go through Andropause . Androgen Deficiency in the Ageing Male (ADAM). The symptoms of ADAM are non-specific and may include:
- alterations in the circulatory & nervous systems (hot flushes, sweating, insomnia & nervousness);
- changes in mood and mental function (anxiety, irritability, poor sleep, constant tiredness, poor short-term memory & low self-esteem);
- changes in virility (decreased physical energy, decreased muscle strength & inability to participate in sporting activities); -diminished sexual function (reduced sex drive, poor erections & impaired ejaculation);
- changes in physical appearance (abdominal weight gain, loss of body hair, diminished muscle mass & loss of height); and
- changes in body metabolism & chemistry (increased LDL cholesterol, increased total body fat, osteoporosis & reduction in the red blood cells in the blood). My husband tested topical testosterone for 4 weeks and saw an improvement on so many levels . We are now still waiting for his official drs appointment to get it prescribed. His conditions that improved went down again and he is suffering.
I hope this helps any of you ❤️
I am so happy for you and that it helped you to have a better quality of life. I stumbled over Andropause by accident trying to research the effects of TRT in women. When I read the info I got so mad and sad, because my own husband had so so many of these symptoms, had been to his Urologists many times and other than getting something like Viagra, he neither took his blood nor did he take him seriously. Same with the GP. It's so important that men get informed too. As much as women. Let's spread the word and inform as many people as possible. HRT and TRT increase our longevity. Not just Libido. Everything needs Estrogen or testosterone to function: heart health, healing of wounds, bone density, inflammation.
Well yes, but back then I had hormonal migraines like once a month. My migraines now are different. They are stress triggered and a symptom from my fibromyalgia. So the pill won't help here either.
Funny that you are mentioning migraines, that's the reason why I took mine without stopping in the end. I rarely got migraines back then. Now I get 10-25 a month due to fibromyalgia. Remember if you don't have any desire, then you also don't miss anything. On the other hand: taking contraception to not get pregnant, but then not having sex is a ridiculous endeavour in itself.

I am so happy for you. Really and great that you didn't let them dismiss your concerns due to your young age. Do you have a link where I can inform myself about the specifics you were mentioning? My husband gets his blood taken this month, so we know what we should ask the doc to test, so we don't miss anything?
