Why was the USS Discovery not assigned a federation liaison to help with their lack of current events knowledge?
Post Body
Why would Starfleet not assign one (even a junior) officer who could assist with various background information like history that they missed by jumping so far into the future?
I know the fleet is supposed to be stretched very thin but ONE person from Starfleet on the bridge as an aide would have been immensely helpful so the ship would not have jumped into various events and missions clueless or with 900 year old assumptions of cultures or species.

I agree. Given the significant tactical advantage that the unique Spore Drive of the ship had it would have warranted the presence of a senior officer of the Federation to be permanently stationed on board to protect their interests. Still, it's not like storylines haven't brushed aside the notion before, as I recall the Defiant was originally intended to have a Romulan crew member permanently assigned to "operate" the cloak but that was very quickly forgotten and left behind as an idea.
