Kasidy Yates -- a changeling infiltrator?
Post Body

I hope you good people don't think I'm trying to turn this into /r/conspiracy, but it occurred to me today after watching the episode of DS9 where Sisko meets Kasidy that Kasidy would have been an ideal target for replacement by a deep-cover Dominion operative.

We heard no mention of her until after we knew about the Founders, and just a few episodes earlier we learned that the Founders had already, at the very least, infiltrated the Tal Shiar at the highest levels -- it wouldn't have been nearly as hard to replace some freighter captain operating just on this side of the wormhole.

On their first date, which was somewhat lukewarm, Kasidy suddenly revealed that she has a brother (and Sisko, to my recollection, had still never met him as of the end of the series) conveniently located out of reach at the opposite end of the Federation. He also happened to play baseball; an obscure and ancient Earth game no one else knew/cared about except for Jake and Ben. It was over a subspace broadcast of one of his baseball games that Sisko and Kasidy first bonded. It seems to me like this whole backstory could easily have been faked by a Dominion operative who wanted to maintain deep cover for the long haul. Her role as a freighter captain was a good cover too, because it allowed her to be away from the station regularly, making it possible to transmit signals to a handler without being detected by some nosy Starfleet signals analyst on DS9.

As the TV series progressed it was revealed that there was a vast network of Dominion infiltrators throughout the Alpha quadrant in countless strategic positions; why wouldn't the Dominion see fit to infiltrate DS9? As far as they were concerned, it was one of the (if not THE) most strategically important place(s) in the alpha quadrant. We also saw throughout the show that various strategies used for detecting or preventing Dominion infiltrators were marginally successful, at best. The only instance I can recall where Kasidy came close to undergoing a 'changeling test' was when a Klingon captain stopped her in Bajoran space demanding to inspect the ship and test everyone on board. Sisko came to the rescue and she was never tested.

It's been quite a while since I watched the whole series, so maybe I'm forgetting some details that would completely derail this hypothesis.

Thoughts?
