Anyone else find the main character a bit annoying?

I get that he's a biker and all, but I just don't find Deacon very likable. I think part of it is his dialogue and delivery. He's always whispering or yelling to himself, making it seem almost as if he's a bit unhinged. And when interacting with others he sounds like a sulking teenager, mumbling or being sarcastic / angry for no reason. I hope there's some character growth, unless they meant for him to be like this.
Really starting to dig the game otherwise.
