The Great Vampire War raged in the lands to the south and the west of the Beastmen lands. The Beastmen were not one to turn down a fight, as many were made quite well for conflict and their patron god appeared to welcome their bloodthirstiness. At the beginning of the war, many Minotaur were seen on the battlefields as elite shock troops. This was because Azh-nzagh's iron fist control over the Minotaur had left some of the tribes angry and disgruntled that their usual independence had been stripped from them, and some journeyed out of the forest to worship and live their lives as independent mercenary groups. They lacked the leadership to unite in any meaningful way, and many would often see their brethren on the other side of the battlefield.
The Minotaur were not alone in their desire for battle among the Northern races, even if they were the most numerous. Ogres were seen occasionally along the battle lines, but the most famous company were lead by a Gigantes, an extremely rare sight, whose name was Xarkaros. He was clad in metal armor and wielded a tree trunk turned into a club with iron spikes that would wade into and out of battle lines, crushing many of the warrior-slaves of the Vampires. Unbeknownst to many, even Xarkaros himself, was that he was protected from the Vampire curse that was so dangerous in battle by L'zthnyl himself, enjoying the entertainment this Gigantes was providing. Xarkaros and his ogre company quickly found a home in the War Path Cabal due to their bloodthirsty arenas and chance to prove his battle prowess.
Alongside the rest, a tribe of Dybukk kicked out of their ancestral lands by an upstart new tribe had long searched for a new place to call home, a place where they could live and follow their traditional ways. When they received word of a War brewing in the west, they galloped straight towards it. They were lead by a Chieftain by the name of Blimesal, who had majestic curled horns adorned by the jewelry of her enemies she had made during her tribe's exile from the Northern Steppes. The Silver Swords cabal would make a good home for her tribe, as they reveled in the wealth they were granted for their assistance in battle. Their prowess in utilizing the bow and arrow combined with their speed and their two handed swords they used in close combat allowed them to control the battlefield, causing mayhem from far away before closing in to finish off the remnants.
These mercenary groups would gain fame in their daring exploits and their skill in battle, and the most famous of them would be names that would be known far and wide for their abilities. As time would pass from the Great Vampire Wars, and the farther away from where it took place, the stories would grow in fantasy and grandeur. Beastmen would hear of the stories of their success far from home, and many more would be impressed and take their own chances forming their own mercenary groups that would travel the world offering their arms in return for coin and the ability to live the lives of freedom they so desire.
