With more ways to get water, and more food acquired from trading with people in the mountains, tribes grew larger. Eventually, they needed to split, with a Shadi or two leading there followers to find a new route across the sands. There were few who walked the sands, and those who were there did not know the desert, clutching nearly to life at the edge of the mountains or at a lone oasis. They would not have lasted much longer without the Ra'Shaket to lead them, lost and leaderless as they were. They would learn to kneel, learn to follow, and learn to survive. If they did not wish to, it was not the place of any Ra'Shaket to deny them their resting place in the sands.
To the North, the tribes spread along the base of the mountains, as they had done before, establishing tentative trade and friendships with the herders in the mountains. These ones had only goats, none of the strange yaks occasionally encountered before. Still, they sought after the gold from the sands, and were willing to give much in return. The land here had more areas that were completely devoid of plants, just rolling dunes of sand. The Ra'Shaket would survive in them still.
Tribes also travelled to west, to lands not known to the Ra'Shaket. Here, their way of life had to be adapted, for there was no seasonal mountain river to return to. Instead, they needed to flit from oasis to oasis, for few were large enough to support an entire tribe alone. Better to move constantly, as the sun did, for if he remained in one place the earth would be scorched barren. Here too were more camels, most wild. They would often be lured in by camels kept by the Ra'shaket, and could be nurtured by a gentle man, or tricked and broken by a cunning one. Either would suffice, if it would swell the pack animals of the tribe.
