RP: The Tedeshan had for centuries been trading partners of the Exaanos, the quasi-nomadic herders and sometime-farmers that lives on the steppes north of them. Although the occasional petty dispute has caused needless Tedeshan deaths, this relationship has been mostly beneficial for the Tedeshan. Meats, wool, dairy, hides, and olives were not products the Tedeshan could produce themselves, and the Tedeshan had plenty of excess salt, seafood, and linens to trade in exchange.

However, in recent years, Tedeshan traders have noticed new kinds of products, in small quantities, being traded to them from their Exaanos counterparts. Crude pottery, figs, cabbages, and grapes, clearly not traditional Exaanos wares. One merchant, Csalsar, has, upon talking to numerous Exaanos on trading missions to numerous Exaanos herds and settlements, has come to the conclusion that these rare goods are the result of Exaanos trade with some as-of-yet unknown culture. There was no other plausible explanation.

Being a fan of fame and riches, Csalsar decided that he must meet this mysterious trading partner of the Exaanos, and find a way to import their goods directly to Tedeshan. Being a well-travelled man, Csalsar knew that the lands to the immediate west of the Exaanos were uninhabited by civilized folk, as those lands were also directly north of the western Tedeshan lands. To the east of the Exaanos was the great sea. Logically, then, this unmet trading partner of the Exaanos must reside to their north. The full extent of Exaanos territory was unknown and unmapped by the Tedeshan, but they couldn't reasonably be much larger than the lands inhabited by the Tedeshan, now, could they.

So, Csalsar decided to go on a journey north, throughout the Exaanos lands, until he reach their borders with this mysterious other people. So Csalsar wandered northwards, from village to nomadic camp to hamlet, plying his wares and labour and stories in exchange for lodgings, food, and directions to the next northern Exaanos settlement that would receive him kindly. After many days and many nights, some much more pleasant than others, Csalsar began to hear from his Exaanos hosts tales of the strait to the north, and of the people who lived beyond it, who were called the "Rahmtʊ". At this Csalsar was exuberant, as it all but confirmed his theory. He could, of course, have started trekking back southwards with this news, and used his good name to convince his home village to spare a boat or two for a trading mission around the Exaanos coastline, but where's the fun in that?

So Csalsar continued onwards, trekking from Exaanos settlement to Exaanos settlement, for several more days and nights. Until, finally, he trekked into one of the Exaanos settlements on the northern strait. From there, he could plainly see the other landmass on the horizon. He could also see much greater quantities of the mysterious new trade goods lying around, far more than he had ever seen in Tedeshan and southern Exaanos. Some talking with the locals confirmed that Rahmtʊ traders did frequently paddle down across the strait to trade with this village, and with nearby Exaanos coastal villages. All Csalsar had to do was wait, wait until the next Rahmtʊ trading party showed up, and then he could talk business.
