The Karrota river is at the heart of Tupian culture, from using it to water the fields to travelling between villages to the annual floods that the river brings that make the Tupian heartland so fertile. However living on the river creates issues, most notably a matter of space. In Tupian families, the first son gets almost if not all of the parent's belongings leaving second, third, fourth, and fifth sons with little to no possessions to their names after their parents passed. Because of this many young men and their families will strike out north into the wilderness of the Karrota floodplain region to create their own towns with other young families. Once these new villages were full and established, the new farmers moved on from them to even newer towns and farms creating a string of newer and newer towns all the way up to the outskirts of the Karrota floodplains.
