[I don't think I've ever written about inheritance stuff before which is a huge oversight, so might as well cover the present situation]
Since the Unone eradication of the Null'ba caste, the people of Radet-Ashru have enjoyed a great many freedoms in regards to their personal lives.
Marriage in Radet-Ashru is chiefly between two consenting individuals of a similar age who love each other. As most social interactions occur within the same class, a plurality of marriages are between two people of the same class and for particular professions and genders is it almost unheard of to marry outside of the class (i.e all val'kash, warrior women, marry male kashi). This is not mandated however due to the gender imbalances inherent in the classes and anyone may marry anyone providing the other party consents.
Strategic marriages for political or financial opportunism still occur, but due to the elected nature of Radeti officials a family of note one year can quickly become almost irrelevant the next, and thus incentive for such plays is reduced. This situation is variable however, as the more dynastic and aristocratic Teltras, Santu and Naotik have vastly more 'name power' and thus political marriages than their counterparts in Unone, Konome and Ket.
It is expected that children are raised predominantly by their mother not because a mother is worse at her job, but because she is far better at imparting knowledge. Children are legally considered to have inherited the class of their same-sex parent unless this is appealed before the child's 16th birthday, considered the age of majority and the time at which the child becomes a legal Iya. Prior to that they are perkiya, apprentice creators, and their same sex parent their de facto master. Orphaned children become a perkiya to another master who becomes effectively a replacement parent.
Children may not marry prior to the age of 16, as prior to this they may not legally offer their consent to the marriage. This stipulation is enforced variably across Radet-Ashru, being absolute in Unone but very lax in Naotik to secure alliances or deals as soon as possible.
Upon the death of an individual, goods are inherited by their nearest heir which first prioritises their children of the same class, then near kin (nephews, nieces and grandchildren) of the same class, before then opening up to the same of a different class and then broader family.
In Radet-Ashru men are seen as more impulsive, rash, aggressive and illogical than women, who are perceived as being comparatively more calm and collected albeit more prone to sadness than men. The traits of men are seen as making them far more ideal for the art of war than women, whilst their tendency to be run by their emotions makes it easier for them to hear the voices of the nad and thus more suitable for the roles of the nadisun, interceding with the nad on behalf of their people.
Women meanwhile are seen as more apt administrators and academics due to their proclivity for eschewing emotion for higher minded thought. A large portion of meduk, rekuu, loar and most especially luduu1 are women, these classes being even more female-heavy in the long Matriarch-governed Santu. Elderly women are seen as the most rational of all, and thus it is common for Artiya councils to have many women in their fifties and sixties.
Gender roles are not presently seen as absolute, but for an individual of the unconventional gender to enter a particular role requires them to be substantially above average if they have any expectation of remaining free from scorn and abuse by their peers.
