The Unone, cognisant of Radet-Ashru's history, were weary of exerting hard power. They rise and fall of cities before them was tied to the arrogance of forcing others to live as they did, to conform to the new power structure.
Unone had little use for hard power, at least in the present. Soft power would unite the Radeti, one year at a time.
The most ambitious of the Unone statesmen's attempts to craft themselves more soft power was their introduction of the so-called Iyasu - The 'Creator's Day'.
Hosted upon specially prepared grounds and in specifically designed buildings, the Creator's Day was intended as a showcase of all forms of Radeti creation, with Iya from across Radet-Ashru flooding into Unone to showcase their talents as anything from a kashi to a meduk. Competitors would face off against one another to craft the finest sword, regale their most interesting mathematical discovery or best their opponent on the field of battle in the most spectacular fashion, thereafter being judged and so awarded prizes for victory or commiserations for defeat.
The greatest effort of the Unone was expended first to ensure that their judgements were impartial, a feat they attempted by ensuring that each council of judges was made up from all the peoples of Radet-Ashru and so not biased to any particular city.
The second was establishing a sport known as Keron as the centerpiece of the games. Unlike all other events at the Iyasu, which tended to be quite directly related to the professions of various Iya, Keron was established as a team game played with rules removed from the skillsets of any particular group. The goal of the sport was to pass a small leather ball into the net guarded by the opposite team with one's hands, feet or a small net on a stick whilst simultaneously avoiding interceptions and tackles from that team.
There was one important rule of Keron extraneous to the game itself: in order to be eligible to play, one had to be a member of a preexisting team established and administrated by Unone officials. These teams, the Unone ensured, would be made up of an equal number of individuals from each of the cities of Radet-Ashru.
Finally, the prize pool for Keron was the largest of all sports and games undertaken at the Iyasu and the ceremonies for the victors the most extravagant of all.
The sum total of these factors ensured that Keron was the most attractive of all the day's events, and thus people would go the greatest lengths to bring victory to their side. In turn this ensured that individuals would have to practice with their team as frequently as possible to win and, as the bulk of their team would not be of their own city, they would be cooperating with 'foreigners' to bring victory to themselves.
Year after year, Keron brought the Iya of Radet-Ashru together as more and more team members ceased identifying as citizens of Naotik or of Santu, Konome, Teltras or Ket, and instead identified as a member or their particular team or, more simply, Radeti.
