[This Tech post should have been posted last weekend, but Mag led me astray, and I had finals this week as well. I will be posting this with a number of other posts giving more rp. Expect associate posts shortly]
When the Bandits from Radeti lands fled into the Arathee desert, the Radeti and Arathee worked together to bring them to justice. In order to catch their mounted adversaries, the Arathee were given a number of horses to help ride them down. While these were not the first horses in Arathee lands, as traders had been traveling back and forth for centuries, The large number given boosted the numbers to the point where the Arathee had Horse Domestication.
With the horses given from the Radeti came the means to ride them. Simple Cloth Saddles made riding much more bearable.
Getting trampled by a horse is not a pretty sight. The primary injury suffered by those who fall under the horses' hooves is broken bones, cracked ribs, and other deep injuries. Luckily for the Arathee soldiers, Radeti doctors had a far greater understanding of their craft then Arathee ones, and their sharing of the knowledge of Bone Setting and Bandages saved many lives.
Flag signaling [Rp withheld until post. No spoilers ;P]
If there was ever one thing that the Arathee exiled at, it was archery. It was no surprise that some would try to practice archery from the back of a horse. While there were many difficulties with the earliest techniques, one major problem that the bow was too big to be properly fired while on a horse at speed. In what many call an act of madness, one Bowyer built a bow back on itself, as he figured that since the curve of the bow gave it strength, a double curve would increase that strength. These new Recurve Bows, while more complex and slightly less reliable then normal compound bows, were compact enough as to be effective from horseback.
Those who spend their lives firing bows often develop calluses on their fingers, from the constant draw and release of the bow string. Those who did not have these calluses were often in pain after a day of shooting. One ingenious young recruit took his knife to a pair of his gloves, altering it so it protected his fingers without restricting his dexterity. These Archery Gloves, as they were called, were soon adopted by most archers in Arath.
As Philosophical thoughts turned to random experimenting, a number of Seers and Seekers working together began experimenting with the various reactions of materials. Chief among their experiments was anything that they believed had to do with Fire. As it was believed that fire was the key element that granted life, and that gold was condensed sunlight, their classifications of what constituted fire and not wereโฆ imperfect. Still, this Proto-Alchemy would lead to far greater things in the future.
The future lies far sooner then many think, as one experiment yielded almost immediate benefits. While fire burned food to the point where it was inedible, it was discovered that when meat was left in smoke, it went far longer before spoiling. While sharing this knowledge throughout the tribes, Seekers discovered that many tribes already had been practicing Meat Smoking for countless generations, and were surprised that so many had never heard of it.
Smiths from the Vraichem used blocks of metal as a base to better work their craft. These Anvils, while at first thought too expensive to be worthwhile, were quickly adopted when the quality and prices of the finished goods were compared.
