Arathee seekers are known for their pursuit of knowledge, the goal to learn about the world and share that knowledge with others. While the Arathee government encourages seekers from a purely political and economic standpoint, sometimes the scattered nature of their knowledge is... Incomplete, to say the least.
One area where this is especially noticeable is in maps. While more simple drawings are sufficient to find the way to the next village, maps for census and taxes must be accurate. Traders also prefer accurate maps as well, as the farther one travels the more varitaion they will see, and the more likely they stray from their intended path.
And so a group of twenty men and women were trained for a year in perfecting the art of cartography, with exacting measurements so that multiple maps could be fit together. The end goal was simple: make a map that extended out as far as the Arathee could.
Once the lands of Arath were mapped, the group split up, and began categorizing the two sides of the mountains.
