As the jungle where the Tefian people make their home is populated by a wide variety of dangerous predators and xenophobic warmongers, they have been forced to innovate in the tools and techniques they use to defend themselves from external threats.

Spear-thrower: As the Tefian people primarily hunt and fish using the broad-tip spear, it is only natural that they would continue to innovate in the art of spear throwing. The spear-thrower, or atlatl, is an improvement in both range and accuracy, and as such is beginning to be adopted among the Tefian people.

Rawhide shield: The Tefian people have astutely noticed that sharp, pointy objects do no harm if they cannot reach you. As such, the Tefians have begun constructing primitive shields made of raw hides and bark to prevent their enemies' weapons from hitting their target.

Palisade: In an extension of the above, the Tefians have realized that those intent on harming their villages cannot do so if they cannot enter said villages. As such, they have begun to construct simple wooden palisades around their largest settlements, in hope of preventing them from being raided and pillaged by unwelcome guests.

In addition to these more obvious defensive innovations, some among the Tefians have noticed that edible plants tends to grow around the same areas, year after year. This has prompted them to hypothesize that the newer plants might perhaps be the spawn of the older ones. As controlling access to a reliable source of food is obviously beneficial to their communities, some Tefians have begun to collect various parts of the plants they eat, and scatter their remains in patches of dirt in their settlements, in hopes that their theory is correct.
