I remember waking up 5 years ago (technically the 11th) blindsided and gut-punched by this news. The only celebrity death to really impact me. Where and how did you find out about this major loss?

Woke up and checked my phone, had a text from my best friend who told me. I'm thankful she is the one I learned it from. Luckily I didn't have to work that day. I was so shocked and frozen, then spent the day crying as I saw the various reports. I just remember being so happy upon listening to Blackstar when it dropped, then the meaning of it all totally changed and it would be months before I could listen to it again.

When I went to work the next day, I had coworkers I'd never even spoken to coming up to me and offering their condolences. My Bowie love wasn't a secret I suppose, and I guess they knew how I'd be feeling. That was sort of a surreal thing especially because I was still processing everything, but it was kind of them.
