AO's advice on cars
Post Body

So, I'm just catching up on the Dave Ramsey show and the other day when AO and Dr. John we're hosting, AO gave some poor car advice. At the end of the second hour a guy said he wanted to fix the A/C in his 05 Corolla worth $1000 for $1500. AO gave 3 "tips" here that weren't the greatest.

  1. DON'T put premium gas (93) in a regular gas (87) car. It doesn't change performance because the engine isn't actually optimized for it. All you're going to do is pay substantially more for essentially a placebo. More info

  2. Using synthetic oil in your car is actually okay, but again, will be substantially more expensive. It is definitely a better oil and helps your engine run safer and more efficiently. But so do just regular oil changes. I've always used conventional oil and never had engine problems with a car. I also make sure to change my oil regularly and on time. If you want, for a little extra piece of mind without having to spend the extra money, a synthetic blend could work for you. More info

  3. Please, for heaven's sake, don't spend $1,500 to fix a $1,000 car. Idk why AO forgot math for this question. Spending $1,500 just on an A/C unit will not increase that car's value that much. That guy could easily have gotten a way better car for $2000-2,500. More info
