This is gonna be a weird one, so bear with me. (If you wanna skip this section, feel free. I'm altering the "requirements" in an attempt to broaden the scope of the search. You no longer need to be musically inclined at all, if you can sing or play an instrument, it's strictly a bonus at this point. It's more important that I tackle the loneliness, and then maybe I can focus on the music slump).
Background:
I have a friend that throws big underground Raves.
Back in 2008 I started tinkering around with Gameboy Music Software, and wrote a couple original pieces for fun. My Rave friend wanted to throw a Foam Party/Rave, and his idea was to Theme the Party after the old NES game "Bubble Bobble". He told me, that he would really like to have an actual 8-Bit Chiptune musician playing at this video game themed Rave... and if I could write 1/2 an hours worth of additional music... he would pay me to play the Rave.
The thing is, I have zero musical training.
I come from a Radio/Computer IT nerd background, but I've never taken a music lesson. I was able to scrape-by and write a couple more original tunes, and then I padded the rest of the set with some simple cover-tunes (8-Bit reinterpretations of Popular rave classix).
So, I played the Bubble Bobble Rave, and a few of its sequel parties (Bubble Bobble II, Just Keep Raving II, Bubble Bobble III: Bust a Move... etc...)
Then life happened and I've continued to acquire synthesizers, and additional tools for making music... but I just haven't had the energy or inspiration to make any more.
Let's fast-forward to today. It's post-covid, raves are going to start being a thing again. He wants to bring back the Bubble Bobble franchise.
I am suffering severe depression from a breakup that happened a year ago (I've also started using weed to sleep at night, which we all know is not good for motivation). In the meantime, he is dating a woman that really likes the "Foo Fighters", and he had the idea, to have me attempt an 8-Bit version of "Everlong"... to impress her.
Now, while I'm not a trained musician, I have plunked around on the Bass Guitar, and I do have a love for Drum Programming, and I was a huge fan of Nirvana back when I was a kid... and I know that both the drums, and melody on that song would be pretty complex to replicate on a 4-channel 8-Bit toy from the 1980s, so I started by watching some music history/criticism videos about that song... and that's when I got my inspiration to write this personal advert.
At the time Dave Grohl was inspired to write Everlong, he had just suffered a Divorce, and he had started dating Louise Post (of the band "Veruca Salt").
She was his muse, and inspiration for that song, and it was her friendship, that got him over that emotional hill (her voice even appears in the song).
This is what I feel might be lacking.
I need a muse (or just a GF, as stated above).
I need someone to help me through my emotional slump.
I need a cuddle buddy, and activity partner to distract me from that breakup, and above all else, I need someone with a greater understanding of music theory that, maybe I can collaborate with on this Foo Fighters cover-tune (And maybe some additional tunes leading up to this Rave) until I get back in the swing of writing chiptunes. An additional set of ears, and someone that can go "I think that note is a little off", or "I think you're having trouble programming that, because the time signature changes right here... and you have too many ticks per measure." Or other things that real musicians might say.
(I've always fantasized about working with a female vocalist too, because I definitely don't want to sing, but I would like the possibility of adding vox to future tracks. Maybe you could be the Alison Moyet for our Yazoo, or the Joanne Catherall for our Human League).
So, that's the pitch.
And now for a little about me.
Music:
I like IDM/Experimental Techno, Breakcore, Surf Rock, Quiet Storm / Motown, 80s Synthpop, Yacht Rock, Synthwave, Vaporwave.
Movies/TV:
I like Comedy, and Sci-Fi, (specifically, Sci-Fi, about Robots, AI, VR, Dystopia, Dreams, Memories, Time Travel... and less about Aliens, Space Travel, Ghosts, Vampires, Zombies, Horror, Anime).
Radio/Podcasts/Youtube.
I am an "Oldtime Radio" buff (think radio Dramas like Dragnet, Hitchhikers Guide, etc..).
Beau of the Fifth Column, Big Joel, Legal Eagle, VeryTallBart, BadGear, ContraPoints, PDS, YMH, Chapo Traphouse.
Love Language etc:
Physical Touch
Quality Time
Words of Affirmation
I'm not materialistic. I don't care about gifts, money or status.
I do not have a "wanderlust". I do enjoy road-trips, and night drives, especially with a partner. But travel is not my #1 way to relax and wind-down.
It should also be noted that, while I'm ideally looking for a long-term relationship, I'm not looking to get married, have kids (I've had a vasectomy), or move-in together (though there is a spare room in the house currently that my roommate and I are looking to rent-out... 450 bucks a month lol).
Personality:
I'm extremely chill.
Image if Jeff Lebowski (The Big Lebowski) was combined with the geekiness of Kevin Flynn from Tron/Tron Legacy The humor of someone like Mitch Hedberg, Andy Richter, or Norm Macdonald.
Politically , I'm a leftist (I'm not a liberal, because I feel like "The Center" has been pulled so far right at this point, that anyone willing to "Reach Across the aisle" is just wasting their time, and falling for all the bad-faith arguments and scams that the Right is dragging them into).
Black Lives matter.
Gay/Trans Rights are Human Rights.
Healthcare is a human right.
Women deserve autonomy over their bodies.
The workers should control and profit from the means of production.
Religion has no place in politics.
I think that's enough writing for now.
I hope to hear from you.
